Good Afternoon All, I have been asked to do a short presentation to some directors of the company to introduce a new HSMS, which has been based around the principles of HSG 65. It is just a intro piece some senior members of the company, before full company implementation. I clearly need to be able to explain what the benefits of the system will bring to the company are, and I believe I have this down already. However I am wondering if anyone would have any suggestions for any other key points that should be raised during the presentation? Just after a bit of advice as other than explaining why it's a good thing to have a formal system in place, I am a little stuck for other key headings that I should bring up... Thanks!

You might like to review Leading Health and Safely at Work an IOD/HSE publication designed for senior managers to provide some inspiration.

Hi JS I agree with Ray as the IOD document is really good (I think that it's INDG 41). Also, I'd consider including some references to FFI/Corporate Manslaughter etc if they're relevant to your industry - setting the scene and relating it to what makes many Board members 'tick' - ie personal accountability and/or financial costs etc Pete

I would suggest that you focus on two points: 1. Why you are going to the trouble of creating a new HSMS? What is the story? What was the trigger: a poor external audit, an accident investigation, new owners who are actually interested in H&S? Use the current Situation, Action to be taken, conclusion model to describe what you will be doing. 2. Make it relevant to the business you are in. Avoid using a generic presentation which could apply to anywhere. Explain how the new system will improve your business.
