Has anyone any information on the maximum permitted space that could be a in running nip point on a fixed belt conveyor? If the gap were too large the operators fingers could be caught.
I believe it to be 5mm (EN 620 - Continuous handling equipment and systems; Safety and EMC requirements for fixed belt conveyors for bulk materials.) but would appreciate any comments.
Thanks

Polo
When working for a large pharmaceutical company we has a maximum gap of 2mm. we found 5mm to wide for ladies with small fingers, also 2mm was more suitable for preventing long sleeves from catching in the gap.

BS 3042:1971
Specification for standard test fingers and probes for checking protection against electrical, mechanical and thermal hazard
This is really a good start point but rather expensive for non members
