Hi, I am wondering what peoples views are regarding composting toilets (similar to http://natsol.co.uk/)within a temporary workplace? Having used them during a trip to Scandinavia I dont like them one little bit however looking at sustainability and sites where a water supply may not be present, I am being asked for a view based on the regulations. Thanks

Have seen them used in remote locations where there were no sewers and planning officers were not keen on septic tanks, but these were for long term use. Not sure what you mean by a temporary workplace is a site that will only be used for a short time and then never again or are we talking a site used repeatedly but only occasionally?
Can see no reason why they would not comply with the regulations, but you will still need running water for hand wash etc so not sure what you would save.

Thanks for the response Brian. The sites are used approximately 3 or 4 days a month however they do have the potential to work more. With occasionally working the schedules around the maintenence and cleaning will have to be very stringent but thankfully that will be for our cleaning providers to arrange.

I'm no expert in this area (although some people may think the quality of my posts they should be confined to the item in question.) But from memory I'm not sure a composting toilet would work in such a situation. I seem to recall that they need a constant supply of material (trying to be polite) to allow the correct flora and fauna build up. If you use it for a few days and then empty it I don't think the process would work.
Sounds like a portable system perhaps with a removable cassette to hold the offending material would be better, so you did not have to remove the whole cubical every time.
