Hi All
Just wanted some guidance on how others plan their training etc. for plant operators. We are a waste company and I'm currently reviewing what training has been provided historically (not a lot recently) and how we can ensure competence of all our operators moving forward.
Your thoughts on what you do or would do would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I presume your operators will have received initial plant training for the equipment they operate CPCS for example? and any applicable NVQ's?
If yes and you are looking for more annual refreshers etc what I do is have a CPCS plant trainer attend site and complete a 1 day workshop. update on applicable laws, practices, standards and then a quick practical review of the operators.
seems to work well.

You need something that is relevant to the Waste industry. CPCS is more appropriate to construction, although operating plant remains the same, its the environment where it is to be used that is as important.
You can view HSE view on the Waste Industry. http://www.hse.gov.uk/waste
And of course some tailored in-house training. If you do not have an in-house trainer one could be hired but ensure 'you' tell them what you want.
