All – to start the sharing process. Some rather startling numbers….. Australian initiative looking to launch in the UK. Martin Coyd working for LendLease. Some headline stats. Scotland 2009/10 - Total no of suicides 1083 - of these 140 were from four construction trades. Only trades highlighted those with >20, so total % of suicides involving construction workers likely to be significantly higher than 12.9% (140/1083). Applying 12.9% against UK stats for suicides approximates to 733 construction workers per year. So perhaps nearer 1000 for all trades. 49% of suicides in RoI involving construction workers. ~2014 Looking at pushing 1 hour Mates in Construction induction, 3 hour MIC Connector training (effectively your friend on site) and 2 day MIC Assist Mental Health First Aider training. Initiative supported by Mind, Samaritans, mhfa.

I agree that this was a thought provoking session. There are quite a few interesting presentations on the construction web pages that are relevant to those working in other industries as well. Well worth a look!
