I would welcome shared thoughts on the requirement in HSG274 part 2 on the requirement for annual inspection of drinking water storage. I have been facing challenges of the practicality of this requirement, both on account of cost and the complexity of carrying out the inspection of our storage. I'd be interested in thoughts that would strengthen the argument for carrying out, and where an alternative approach has been taken how this was done and how it satisfies the requirements to ensure water system suitable for drinking water storage. Thanks.

Howdy Technically the legal requirement is to control the risk, not to follow the HSG checklist. But I suspect you know that as you're looking for defensible alternatives. Without more info on the nature of your challenge, its rather hard to assist. Access issues I'd guess.... Can waterproof camera's on a line be used akin to those used in drains? Can a bluetoothed thermometer be floated out away from the ball valve to check the temperature?

It's not just drinking water but both hot / cold water storage, which includes cold water feed tanks too. You may be able to measure the temperatures with little training, but what about microbiological sampling? This will probably have to be resourced externally as with cleaning & disinfection.
