Recently qualified salary expectations

Have any other recruiters out there noticed an increase in salary expectations by individuals with a Nebosh cert ?
My organisation was recently looking to recruit someone at junior/assistant level and some of the salary expectations from people with just the cert and less than a years H&S experience in a relevant field was getting to the £35K mark.

Do you advertise your jobs with no salary indicated? I never understood why companies did this.
When do you ask salary expectations, at interview? Surely, this is the start of a negotiation and they are going to go in high to start off aren't they?
Do you counter offer these people who have gone in to high, or just disregard them from that point on?
I ask only as I am curious. I have always given job vacancies with no salary attached a wide-berth in the past

Our recruitment people placed the advert not me. I gave them a salary range which they did not include.
Regardless of that there is starting off high in order to negotiate and then there is pricing yourself out of a potential interview.
If you are looking at a Trainee H&S position and you have a recently obtained Nebosh Cert and minimal experience, then to value yourself at £35k to a potential Employer is a bit OTT.

Having just read a recruiters blog on a similar query - could it not be that those applying for said vacancies are doing so having moved into H&S from another role (which probably pays similar or above) and are half-expecting a similar salary, not thinking it may be their first proper role in safety? I'm in no way trying to justify such an approach to salary expectations as my initial H&S salary was pittance and I accepting of such, may well have an MSc in Safety but my experience was negligible.

Well in the back of the IOSH magazine there is a job asking for Cert in London range £40 to £50k. There are also a couple in there between £45 and £55k for a Dip, so £35k for cert may seem to them proportional.
So are they out of the market ? What was your top of the range ?

Think your missing the point. I dont doubt that there are some people out there with just the Nebosh cert and vast experience in their field who are worth larger salaries than £35k.
If the right person with that experience had applied I would have interviewed them regardless.
My post was in relation to people with next to no experience and a cert valuing themselves at £35K.

£35k for General Cert & no experience .. .. laughable.
Not saying it doesn't or couldn't happen - I'm saying I don't think it should happen. The General Cert is not intended for anything other than low risk roles or where H&S is part of a larger role.
In some areas H&S is not that well paid - partly because of the relative glut of available people to fill the bottom end of the job range.
Mind you I'd want to be paid more than £50k to work in London!

There will be people on here with Diploma and years of experience on less than 35k and ones with just the certificate and experience on more than 35k. There is no benchmark for H&S roles regardless of low or high risk jobs.
There is starting of high on your CV and there's being realistic.

Yes fair enough, but the fault lies with your recruitment people for not posting the Salary range and wasting the Job hunters time as well as your own.
I used to hate adverts with no information on salary range and then they have the cheek to ask you in interview what you were on before, but still not give you a clue when you ask them. Always makes me think they are just out to get lowest possible cost to them, not pay going rate. Not saying this is your company.
My current job had no info on salary and advert was not clear about position (H&S admin or Manager). Turns out they didn't know what they wanted. Disappointed with the offer but had little choice (and they knew it).
There was a thread a little while ago though don't remember who but saying it was hard to get H&S people in the London area, so is this just an extension of that?
All the best with your recruitment, glad to know things are going good with some company's ( if you need to employ more people).

Its not surprising employers are finding it difficult to find h&s people in London.
It was recently suggested to me by a recruiter to work in London for £360/day.
A complete joke - as a freelance safety engineer, this sort of rate simply isn't commercially viable - given travel costs from my home address and hotel prices in London.
Likewise for more local h&s people I can't imagine it's that good, given housing costs in London and the south east.
So £35k in London - how do people live on that? Mortgages, kids, travel costs etc etc.
For those of us in the grim north, there is little incentive to work in London, as salaries are about the same as London - but cost of living is less, especially housing costs.

I do the Bulk of my work in London and even with 3 x level 6 certificates i can still earn upwards of £350 pro rata a day, Not doing my Diploma until September. but you need to remember, theres travel, expenses and you do need to have considerable Construction experience. A lot of positions are contract so when the job is complete so is yours. Not to mention working for 1 or 2 clients (you may be lucky and get a full time Position)
You may be lucky and get a contract that lasts for 12-18 months or it might be one that lasts for 1-3 months.
Ideally if your Self Employed or Limited Company, don't expect these sort of rates on PAYE
there are some frighteningly good Positions out there if you up for a challenge
