Hi, such conflicting advice, can anyone advise on whether a propane gas bottle should be 3 metres away from the actual bitumen heater and what regs this is under. The reason is that I am attempting to purchase some and the supplier has a built in cradle which is only 1 metre away from the boiler and they arent aware of any regs?

See pager 89 in this HSE guidance http://www.hse.gov.uk/pUbns/priced/hsg33.pdf Keep the gas cylinder at least 3m from the boiler

HSG33 actually says Set up the gas cylinder at least 3 m away from the boiler during use, unless a suitable protective shield is fitted. Perhaps the cradle meets this requirement

RP thanks for that link, had quite a chuckle. The author of the document clearly knows his likely audience well. Personal favourites were :- "A thermostat is an aid to safety – it does not remove the need for all usual safety precautions – its not some kind of magic box !" and "THE BEST SAFETY IS COMMON SENSE - DON'T LEAVE YOURS IN THE VAN"
