I have been searching for guidance for fixed LPG installations, and the required number of Fire Extinguishers (based on storage capacity).

Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

Have you tried with the LPG gas suppliers, they would normal tell you what safety procedures you should have in place

I managed to find this on the HSE website http://www.hse.gov.uk/gas/lpg/safeuse.pdf

and this here, but no one has anything about Fire extinguishers?.

I'm guessing that if something catches fire on a bulk LPG installation and you cannot safely isolate the leak then you need to evacuate as opposed to being close and trying to fight a never ending flame with a fire extinguisher

Thanks gerrysharpe. I had read through that link already. I had similar thoughts to be honest - if this area is on fire, you need to be somewhere else!

You will need more than portable fire extinguishers if you get an LPG leak.

Potential risk of a jet fire. What is the site layout? Could a jet fire impinge on other LPG vessels? Or extend onto a public area?

What size are the LPG tanks? Operating pressure?

As other have said - isolation is the preferred method of fire control. Otherwise you may have a leaking gas cloud which may find a remote source of ignition and flashback to the source of the leak.

You might try the BCGA (British Compressed Gas Association) Codes of Practice.
