Does anyone have any advice relating to the issue of safety glasses misting up whether it be control measures for the existing type used or pointers to other products? Not wearing safety glasses will never be an excuse in my mind but thought to ask you all in case there is something I haven`t thought of. Safety glasses are mandatory on the project.

How are the safety glasses misting up? Either the guys( and gals) are moving in an out of areas with different humidity levels e.g. in and out of a walk-in freezer or they are wearing RPE and their breath is leaking out of the top of the mask, which of course means that the RPE is not properly fitted.

Had a similar issue a number of years ago when working in a confined space and looked in the mesh safety glasses www.meshsafetyglasses.com. We did not use them in the end as warming up the glasses did the trick.

Nice piece from our US colleagues specific to warm weather and glasses misting - some interesting snippets. https://ohsonline.com/Ar...fety-Eyewear.aspx?Page=1

this is an issue for SCUBA divers - just the temperature difference on the inside to the outside of the mask - and yes they do fit correctly or the water leaks in! We used to "spit" into the mask give it a rub round and then wash them out worked a treat. Not suggesting you do that with safety glasses but I believe you can now get a spray to do the job. Check with your local SCUBA shop. I have a dim memory that washing them in a week solvent solution had the same effect but not sure.

I regularly snorkel and swear by a small (5p size) squib of Johnsons baby shampoo rubbed on the inside of the glass and washed out well, before every dive - works every time.

Mandatory on project or lazy control (like Hard Hat, Hi-Vis etc)? Bit of explanation would help e.g. very manual activity / constantly changing environment (temperature/humidity), purpose (impact, chemical, general dust) Remember if the "project" and your controls recommend the wrong solution the employer is liable for resultant injury - after all the employee was wearing what they were issued / told to use. Each situation has differing solutions "light safety glasses" are no good if you are using nail guns (wrong impact protection)

Folks, thanks for all your responses so far. Some context. It is definitely only through physical exertion that they are misting up. The temperature/ humidity thing is not an issue. The guys are installing HVAC on a shipbuilding project so there is scope for eye injury. The type they are wearing is correct for their working activity in terms of impact resistance. Safety glasses are mandatory and it is absolutely not a lazy control. My control measures are...wear them at all times...keep them clean, get new ones if need be...pause working activity, demist them without scratching the lenses (so cleaning/ wiping them with your T-shirt is out...wear them at all times. Our RA clearly states (in better language, of course) what was said above. So the guys are not being asked to do anything that deviates from what constitutes their normal working activity. Just wanted to gauge other opinions.
