If you are trained to test microwaves and have the equipment necessary, please help me by letting me bring my microwave oven to you for testing or by coming to me. London N17 6LH. I will be so grateful. My oven has corrosion on the label on the lower side of the inside of it's door; which has caused corrosion on the lower front side of the oven. This has been getting worse for three years; and I've just read in the manual that this is hazardous. Bought in 2012 it's model EM-S355AW/AS. The phone numbers for sales and repairs are no longer in use. Sanyo is no longer selling microwave ovens here. I'm not using it now; but I need to know if it's been emitting hazardous waves these past 3 years. My post code is N17 6LH. Something has affected my health and I need to know if this has been it.

Maplins do portable testers for these things, would probably be less than the cost of taking it somewhere.

Local Trading Standards often offer free testing of microwave ovens - give your Local Authority a call. Bear in mind that this will only tell you the state of the oven now, not the condition 3 years ago.

Hello Esther, I think that you should take this oven to be tested by someone competent to do so, just for your peace of mind. However, please, please stop using it and replace it with another as soon as you can. One thing that anyone with a microwave oven should realise is that any damage or deterioration of any sort around the door closure sealing area means that the unit must be put out of use until it can be verified that it is safe for continued service. Any corrosion or damage that affects the external case can also allow above acceptable levels of leakage. I do hope that you have suffered no harm Esther, & Rob sends his regards.

They all leak. Cheap "detectors" are worthless.. Corroded door seals mean it will leak more than usual. I consider that a 2012 microwave is past its "throw away" date....the magnetron is well on its way to being a no-emitter by now. That said, the most affected part of the body will be the eyes. Although it is not likely..

Chuck that Microwave, To get someone privately to call round to test it would cost far more than buying a new one, Tesco have them for £39 http://www.tesco.com/dir...=aw.ds&source=others Because its so old and rusting, its dangerous to use and you should really think about scrapping it and buying a new one, new ones are often made from stainless steel so they don't rust. When i first read this i thought it was a joke, that someone had put this on here to gauge the reaction from members, but if its a true story then you'd dump the old and get new its the only way you'll rest assured

The op seems to want it tested not so it can be kept, but because they are concerned it has harmed them. I suspect the op thinks if they know how much / if it is bad for them now they can gunge how much if any harm they have done to themselves over the last 3 years.

I doubt any provable harm has been done by the device itself. Food poisoning from partially cooked food is more likely!
