A question has been asked of me where a client is installing a glazed screen on a first floor terrace and has been informed it has to be a minimum 1.8m if there is seating abutting the screen. He wants to reduce the height and needs to know how far back from the screen the seating would need to be to allow them to do that.
Would anyone know this, or where I can find the information. I think it is a Building Control specialism - but it has certainly aroused my curiosity.

Ok, The hieght for a normal Glass bustrade would be for an external balcony or terrace areas the required height is 1.1m from Finished Floor to the top of handrail. (if Fitted) I'm gussessing that the reason its 1.8m is because you have Seating?? But to be honest people have tables and seatings on terraces and dont have extra high glass?
Could it be that they have Fixed Seating upto the Glass where someone could stand up on and thus topple over, as the safe hieght would be reduced??

Refer to Approved Document K of the Building Regulations (England & Wales) or Part 4 of the Technical Handbooks (Scotland)

It also depends on whether it is a new or existing build
