Is it required to have newly installed warehouse storage racks by a SEMA  approved company SWL tested (Load test)? Is there any legal requirements/regulations on this.

Note: the installed warehouse rack hace dispalyed SWL. Just want to be absolutely sure and as well know the regulations if any.

The SEMA approved Installer should be able to provide you with load ratings and the appropriate racking information signage. You should not have to have them load tested to prove this for new equipment. Racking inspections will identify when advised load ratings are no longer valid due to damage etc.

I would classify racking as work equipment, so would come under PUWER, SEMA Guidance is the guidance specific to racking with regard to determination of SWL, inspection, maintenance, provision of information etc.

Your SEMA approved installer should be telling you the information you need.

Refer to Hsg76 (Warehousing and Storage) for guidance on your racking system. Racking Intallation starts at para 634 on page 111.

It does explain "Racking should only be installed by competent people in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.  A programme of installation training is run under SEIRS (Storage Equipment Installers Registration Scheme), which is run by SEMA. There is more information on the SEMA website."

And be aware that your racking system should be inspected by " Tecnically competent person" at a minimum every 12 months (para 646 & 647) as well as your own in house inspectons.

I hope this helps
