Hi all, Am interested in opinions on the following; We had an external contractor working on site last week, he was cutting something and sliced into his finger. The accident report said finger was severed, however I have since found out that it was "only" the a chunk of his finger that was missing, rather than the whole digit. Still RIDDOR? thanks

If it's "only" a chunk of the finger, then probably not a RIDDOR under "amputation" (there again, maybe it depends on exactly how big the chunk was !).
However, it still might be RIDDOR if it's bad enough for him/her to be unable to work for the next few days....

Hi Russ,
It would be of my opinion that this is NOT RIDDOR reportable. Regardless of the termanology on the accident form, as long as his finger was not amuptated as a result of this, then this will just be an accident - Unless of course he is away from work (or normal working duties) for over 7 days.
Kind regards

A contractor is not your employee, and sounds like the accident was down to using their own plant/equipment. It's up to his employer to determine whether or not its reported.
