Can any contributors give me an idea of what percentage of a project budget should be allocated on H&S.

ie; RaMs, Consruction phase plan, site audits/inspections etc ?

Average project is about 75K.

Thanks in advance.

I guess it depends on a number of factors, the key one being if the client will except the prelims for those items.  Obviously you don’t have to do the work if they won’t, but commercially it’s not as easy as that.

Other factors such as type of work, location, client requirements, site set up requirements will of course impact on the required budget.

I would be lucky if our QS team had priced in anything more than £500 for the items you list on a general project of that value. Whether that’s an accurate cost against those items is another issue!

The budget is what it is, for any given project, what are you going to say towards the end of the job sorry no cherry picker for you as we have spent the budget, use that ladder – yes I know its 60 feet up. :o)

Realistically for whatever work you do the best option you have is to look back at previous jobs and see what you needed.

But what is a safety item? is a cherry picker a necessary item to do the work or is it provided because it is safer than working off a ladder. Who’s pot of money does it come from, H&S or production. No offence meant, just a point it may be trickier than you may first think.

Should there be any H&S budget, is it all work /job related? H&S is not an add on extra in my view.

If you buy a hard hat for one job are you ok to use it on the next ?  :o)

Just some thoughts

Chris
