Hi all,

I've been aware for some time that hoarding requires calculations by design, particualry to demonstrate wind loading etc. However, as an ex-scaffolder, I'm also aware of everything outside of TG20 especiallly edge protection should also be accompanied by design but rarely is.

Not wanting to get into the risk of enforcement debate, does anyone have practical experience of guidance or standard configurations for timber hoarding where Client's and contractors aren't paying through the nose for bespoke designs all the time? I'm sure the industry must have resolved to something before now, even though this is the first time I've been asked about it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

In reality you rarely do bespoke calculations. You would carry out a site assessment for wind, ground and crowds, and use standard designs. A lot of large contractors have a set of standard designs that tend to be over designed, but some just wing it!

This link will give you the fundamentals:-

Which I think is an updated version of garrysharpe post.
