Does anyone have experience in risk assessing the storage of wheelchairs in a minibus? Having undertaken a risk assessment for passengers in our minibus some of whom are blind/visually impaired and have guide dogs, there is a problem making sure the wheelchairs we are transporting are secure in the bus. Does anyone have any ideas how to secure the wheelchairs in the bus? thanks

I carry out training of minibus drivers who carry passengers with specific needs, e.g use wheelchairs. Wheelchairs should be properly secured, for example with webbing straps attached to strong points on the bulkheads, as they could become a missile in a road traffic incident.

There are various bits of kit designed to protect wheelchair users in minibuses. Basically they have an anchor point either clamped to the wheels or with a strap. If you Google 'wheelchair safety restraints' there will be a whole raft of kit and suppliers to choose from.
