Hi Everyone,
I was hoping someone could help me decide what training would be required for very occasional ad-hoc artex ceiling / walls and floor tile sampling. Evry now and again when the works managers go to a prestart meeting they identify that there will be a sample required and in order to streamline the customer experience the company would like them to do it whilst they are there.
The issue is that CAT B training, although allowing the trained person to remove up to 1m2 of Artex, does not really cover sampling procedures, as far as I am aware and the P402 seems more geared towards those that will be sampling day in day out and therefore with high potential exposure.
Does anyone know of a happy medium or does anyone think that the CAT B course would be sufficient?
Thanks

Hi, I think you may be getting confused over the meaning of the term "sampling". The only place that can sample a material is a UKAS accredited lab. Your only involvement would be to remove the material and take it there (double bagged in sealed sample bags of course!) In my past life in the asbestos removal game, it was common for our operatives to take samples of any suspicious materials encountered and have them sampled to confirm what they are. So far as the removal works go, it's undertaken in accordance with your non-licenced training with the same controls (RPE, wetting down etc). The only difference is that you are double bagging it in sample bags and taking it to a lab rather than double bagging it in waste bags and taking it to a landfill!

Hi there, is this sampling in the absence of an R&D survey?

Hi ke5283, The sampling is not to replace an R&D survey, where it is required, it is to ensure that the personnel are safe when they are doing crack repairs to ceilings.
