Hi has anyone used doorguard or battery operated door hold open devices with standalone smoke detectors

we have a number of purpose built flats that do not require fire alarm systems in the common areas at present we have bin stores with fire doors unfortunatley these are being wedged open  i was thinking of installing battery operated magnetic hold open devices or a doorguard and a smoke detector i spoke to the suppliers who have ensured me that this system would work has anybody gone down this road if so does it work

The devices operate off sound and if fitted wrong dont work or if the batteries go they dont work. Personally I dont like them and should think improving the culture is your best bet - dont wedge open doors

Last time I came across this problem (bin store door wedged open) was because the lighting in the bin store was inadequate.

Mag-latch (mains or otherwise) seems impractical. That nice close-fitting fire door also stops the stink from the bins from permeating the whole common area.

Drop a wee reminder note to all concerned on the potential risk and the reason for keeping the door closed.
