Afternoon all,

I am currently reviewing the fire risk assessment for my office and have noticed something strange about the fire doors.

They all have 3 hinges, closers, fire door signs, intumescent strips, smoke seals and are very heavy... basically everything you'd expect to see in a fire door! However, i've noticed that most of them have BS6206 glass in which is actaully impact rated safety glass, as opposed to fire rated glass.

The amount of glass is minimal (each door has three 5inch square panels) and the building is very low risk. Is there a situation where these could be deemed acceptable?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Are the doors part of the compartmentation of the building? what I saying is,  do they need to be fire doors or can they be ordinary doors  as they are not on a fire wall

SBH,

Yes they are. Essentially the building is 3 floors (GF, 1F, 2F). Each floor is basically a corridor with various offices, kitchens, server rooms etc off it. The fire doors are on each and every room leading of these central "spine" corridors.

The corridors themselves are all linked by a central "open" staircase making the corridors and stairwell one big compartment, hence the need for the fire doors for the rooms leading off it (Hope that makes sense!!)
