Hi all,

I was recently made aware of an incident in a housing organisation involving a contractor who drilled through a domestic gas pipe feeding the cooker. The pipe was isolated and repaired as required.

Being fairly fresh to gas incidents, would this be reportable under the RIDDOR regulations or GSMR?  If it was the latter whos responsibility would this be to report, baring in mind the contractor was not a gas engineer, although the housing associations gas engineer went out to rectify

Kind regards

I doubt that it would be RIDDOR reportable as para 26 refers to release of gases in excess of 10kg or more within a building & I assume that the supply was isolated straight away. If you are not to sure, there are calculations in the British Gas Research &Technology Report No ERS R5503 that can help you decide. As for the GSMR, it is only reportable if the gas escape results in a fire or explosion.
