I am currently trying to justify another member of our team and am after any information on the following and particularly if there is any related research out there or industry best practice ratios. on average how many man days do you spend on managing a RIDDOR over 7 day injury event? on average how much time do you spend developing your management system in any one year (not including when standards change/update) i.e. continuous improvement work and corrective actions? how many full time H&S staff do you have as a ratio to employees including admin? how much of your work time do you spend on CPD? how much time do you spend writing reports including information gathering? Any information would be gratefully received including research, articles or practical experience and knowledge. Many thanks Linda

Hi Please don't take this the wrong way I guess the answer is something like 'as long as it takes' and as many as required bepending on a number of factors. More to the point why are you trying to justify anothers job? Just how do you spend your day?
Cheers

Hi Linda, I think you may be approaching this from the wrong angle. You have to bear-in-mind that all organisations are different. You should be looking at your own operations rather than comparing with others.
For example: on average how many man days do you spend on managing a RIDDOR over 7 day injury event?
Shouldn't your justification for getting an extra pair of hands be to reduce the number of these?
If you need another member of staff, then that must be because there are things that arent getting done within your current set up? List these along with some projections on how things will improve as you know have time to focus more on X,Y & Z. You need to build a business case.
