Hi,

Is it necessary to issue, for example, IPAF cards to the individual, or can they be retained by the employer?

The training is recordeed within the matrix, the expiry date is logged, and employees are selected for each job based on their competencies.

If your employee attended my site as supposed IPAF qualified personally I want to see their card - not much good if the employer is holding it, and sorry as a sceptic I do not accept scans by email.

If you are speaking for someone solely employed at your own premises having recorded the training why do you want to keep what is in effect the individuals document it has been issued in their name?

Do you keep their Passport / Identity Card when conducting eligibility to work checks?

The only employer I ever saw this at was one who begrudged paying for training so much they did not want people to be able to go to another employer with skills they had paid to develop.

I would always apss them onto the employee. It is there qualification and useless to me should they leave, so retaining has no purpose other than sour grapes IMO.

However, I always scan first as I may need to send through to a client. Cards can be forged, as can scans too - so I would always use this to put my mind at ease:  http://www.ipaf.org/en/training/verify-pal-card/

Hi Refgizmo,

I have come across this issue a few times and it seems that some employers don't issue employees with their training certificates purely because "they paid for the training". However, they soon change their stance when you point out that while issuing certificates may well benefit any ex employee find another job, new employees may have been issued with training certificates by their previous employer and therefore full training will not be required upon starting employment.

Issuing training certificates helps both employees and employers in the long run; however copies should be taken of all certificates etc. before issuing the employee with the document.

It's a shame that some employers prefer to choose bitterness over common sense.

The certification has the individual's name on it at the end of the day- the company can't keep the qualification if the employee moves on so why not give them it?
