Evening all,

I was hoping to get some advice, I've been advised to do a COSHH assessors course, on looking on line trying to find a course Ive come across a myriad of different courses 1-3 days, with prices varying widly, also its quite sketchy on accreditation. So please any advice would be great, preferably in Scotland NE, though i am willing to travel. Cheers

You need to narrow things down a bit.  Are you a major chemicals user?  Do you use really nasty chemicals?  Do you have sophisticated controls systems based on a lot of engineering controlls?  If your chemical hazards are casual based on domestic type cleaning materials where you don't need sophisticated controls then you won't need such a lengthy or in depth course.  On the other hand say you are an electroplating company then you will need a more comprehensive course.   Your training needs to be in proportion to the chemical use and the risk.

Petrochems has potential for exposure to some quite potent chemical agents so a basic 1-day course will be insufficient.

Suggest you take a look at the BOHS stuff: http://www.bohs.org/qualifications-training/bohs-qualifications/coshh-qualifications/

#3 while the oil price remains low, the best of luck trying to get a job in the oil/petrochemical industry.
