Had an interesting one today, we have had a load come in that has been contaminated enroute from Spain. The driver was stopped on the French borders as people had hidden in the back. Nature had naturally taken it course and they had used bags tha twere then left in the wagon.

Unbeknown to the driver (allegedly) he did not know the "waste" bags were in the wagon until it got to us and we have begun unloading it. We then stopped all unloading and have refused the delivery.

Does anyoon have a proceedure for rejecting a goods load contaiminated with human waste???

I have now put some notices up to stop any unloading but we dont have  a written proceedure, we've not had this before (well not in the 6.5 weeks I've been at the site!

Any help appreciated.

Oh dear - not a nice one to have to deal with.  It very much depends on the nature of the load really, for some loads I would think you would have to scrap the lot, you certainly would with food.  You could contact a specialist decontamination company to do a clean up for you and they might be able to tell you what can be salvaged but beware - you have no way of telling straight off if all the waste is in bags and not contaminating the rest of the load.  I am aware of a complete load of white goods that had to be scrapped because some of the washing machines, dishwashers etc had been used as toilets and the company didn't want to take any chances.

The load is off for govenment inspection to see what can be salvaged but I am thinking the lot will be scrapped.

All I think i can do is give the instruction not to touch as we dont want a proceedure to deal with this. As far as I am concerned we should not be dealing with it full stop.

If it is going off for assessment then it is best not touched as if you do any clean up it will cloud the issue with regard to the assessment.  Close the vehicle, seal / lock if possible and mark it up not to be touched. I don't think you need to put a procedure in place for dealing with human waste in vehicles at this point.
