Interesting programme on ITV last night at 9pm looking at driving standards in the elderly

One elderly gent put on spectacles to read a number plate at distance then promptly removed them as he didn't use them for driving. The assessor then asked about a long since broken taped up wing mirror "oh I don't use that" before setting off on the public highway. Along the assessment route no comprehension of road signage.

So un-roadworthy driver and un-roadworthy vehicle - the RoSPA assessors verdict?

weren't they all ok to drive. I liked the fella on the scooter who went over every speed bump and then at the end said it was the instructors fault cause he said drive in the middle of the road.

Not really sure how many were ok, but a lot better than some of the nutters on the road.

Barring comments/observations the assessors did not recommned any of those shown ceased driving

Our driver policy (mirrors UK law) if you need corrective devices to pass the mandatory eye-sight test these MUST be worn whilst operating a vehicle.

Our vehicle policy requires a roadworthy standard capable of passing the MOT etc. with defects reported and corrected

Yet this assessor continued....
