Evening everyone,

I am conducting rsearch into the longevity of Behavioural Based Safety Programs  (BBSP) and would appreciate any information. I am looking at the longevity of them and if you have or did implement a program which one did you use and how did you find it in relation to cost? Is it still in place if not how long did you run it for?

Many thanks for your help in advance.

P.s if you wish to tell me in confidence not a problem i am looking at statistical info no names will be mentioned and of course you can pm me.

I am not a fan of BBS, they tend to focus on workers as  a problem to be solved.  Fixing workers to not make mistakes has limited effect, there is a tendancy to observe and correct behaviours with out really understanding the context that perpetuated it.  In my experience BBS tools become weponised (e.g. behaviour observations become three strikes and you're out, Golden rules become the focus of investigation causing confirmation, hindsight bias etc (i.e. what rule did they break and because the broke a cardinal rule we can punish them, blame and punish)

this is worth a watch https://safety.asse.org/program/plenary-session/

Some pitfalls to avoid http://www.ehstoday.com/news/ehs_imp_33991

A good place to start https://www.amazon.co.uk/Field-Guide-Understanding-Human-Error/dp/1472439058/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1508152550&sr=8-2&keywords=field+guide+to+human+error

If you are or have a uni student in your family (although some you can get free if you register) you can get some empricale studies here http://www.sciencedirect.com/search?qs=Behavioural%20based%20safety&authors=&pub=Safety%20Science&volume=&issue=&page=&origin=journal&zone=qSearch&publicationTitles=271730&withinJournalBook=true

You dont need to buy in a system, in most cases your being sold something you dont need and end up doing more of the same but harded without really changing how work is done to make it safer.  Beware of programs which ask people to be more comitted, care more, dont make mistakes (like it's a choice) etc.  Take a look at David Cooperrider there are some videos where he talks about apprciative inquiry.
