If a young person collapses at work (yet to determine conscious or uncionscious) and is taken the hospital by ambulance, who should be informed. I haven't seen anything that specifies injusries to young persons, should their college be made aware and the investigation pending?

the usual investigation, policy review, rams review etc. etc. is advised

anything more?

I would have thought that the agreement between employer and college insisted that any incidents be shared with them. Of course, if there's anything work-related, then RIDDOR may apply.

If they have just been taken ill then you would need to inform next of kin and perhaps the college.  For illness there is no need to examine your ra or ssow etc.  If they have been injured at work that is a different matter and you would need to do a lot more in terms of investigation.  I'm not sure from your post if you mean they were injured or just unwell.

When you say "young person", what do you mean?

Apologies Melissa, I was a bit quick off the mark there. Trying to do too many things at the same time.

I suggest you speak to your HR Dep't as the individual in question should have had a specific Risk Assessment carried out prior their commencing work with your company (I presume the individual is involved in some form of work experience placement).

There should also be a formalised agreement in place between your company and the college, which should specify the actions to be taken should the individual be involved in an incident whislt at work.

There's a whole raft of issues here so, as I say, speak to your HR Dep't

Need to first find out whether it's ill health or an injury. If ill health then HR should have emergency contact details for the person. I'd then want to see if this was a known illness (so potential for this happening again). If that was the case, I'd review any risk assessment that had been undertaken prior to them starting and update it. If none had been done, then I'd get one completed.

If it's an injury then it may be reportable under RIDDOR depending on whether the person was simply visiting or actually employed. If employed, had a young person's risk assessment been completed? did it list the activities that person would be doing (had they been trained etc.), did they have a buddy / trainer with them at the time of the incident? witnesses etc..

Hope the person is OK though...

My experience with two colleges providing apprentices is that one wanted any accidents to the apprentices to be reported to them (this was written down as a requirement) and the other one didn't care (I asked their H&S assessor if they wanted any accident reports and they were baffled by the question).

Did we establish if there was an accident? I had a heart attack two weeks ago at work nice that they waited to visit me to ask if anything needed doing RIDDOR etc. told them no, it wasn't work related.

Crikey, you were the one who had to decide if your own heart attack was reportable or not?

I wish you a good recovery.

No, we don't know that there was an accident in the scenario - my point was that colleges don't all have the same requirements so a general answer can't be given.
