I have somewhat medico understanding of the gas Regs (normally leave that one to the professionals). But seeking guidance on a story that came across my desk. 

A gas hob has been removed in a kitchen and the gas pipe connecting to the hob has been turned off at the tap behind the hob. (there was no bayonet fitting). The kitchen fitter that removed the hob informed the householder that someone would return later to cap off the pipe (which turned out to be the next day) 

I may have my wires mixed up but surly gas pipes should be capped off as soon as possible (and tested once capped), or are the levers behind ovens deemed satisfactorily safe as not to require capping or testing.
