Afternoon All

I have always struggled with our maintenance staff, regarding trainng as they carry out such a range of activities.

I was thinking "E learning" might be a way to go ...has anyone used any course supplier in this field I have tried to Google  but not having much luck..any help would be greatly appreciated

IHASCO seemed pretty good when we used them. What specific training are you after?

I'd suggest checking before you buy that they're happy & comfortable with that style of learning - some of ours aren't very tech/IT savvy & it would send them in an (unecessary) spin.

I agree with Lorna, Plus if they are struggling they may not feel comfortable emailing for advice and may struggle with certain topics over others.

I always prefer to go for in-house training where applicable, where not applicable I would go classroom before e learning, I also feel that with e learning it is better to set a 'Class Room' style room up and have everyone working through the course on premises so then they will ask questions and will interact with each other.

Thanks for the company recommendation Oliver will check them out.

I am not a major fan of E Learning training and obviously classroom training would be the prefered route. However it is not always possible when you have personnel  spread far and wide across the UK.

I also know that in the event of a potential claim, when  loss adjusters ask the question  "Have they received any training"?  If the answer is yes ..they are happy... and they are not interested if it was classroom based course  for 3 days or a 20 minute on line training course.  It gets the tick in the box!

The way it is, I'm afraid...not saying its right

What about good old Toolbox Talks? I spent half an hour on Monday running through manual handling & protecting your back - they were well engaged & positive, although perhaps the doughnuts helped....

Face-to-face learning doesn't have to be in a classroom... & having done my PGCE thesis on effectiveness, I tend to see red when I'm told to 'just tick the box'... better no training at all than something inappropriate for the intended audience.
