Do any of you have any Policy's regarding recovery periods following shiftworking offshore. Also should this only be if the shift work is night time work or would any offshore work require a period of rest onshore. These are employees who will be carrying our subcontractor work not rig workers. I have looked at the HSE guidance but this isn't very descriptive! Many thanks

Natashabi You can find useful guidance on the question you raise in the 'Books and resources' section of this website: you can download research on health, safety and welfare as well as industrial relations related to dockers, etc. written by safety psychologists at Cardiff University commissioned by the IOSH and relevant international trade union

Two UK publications that give specific guidance for offshore are:
- HSE's Offshore Information Sheet No.7/2008, can download freee from HSE website
- Step Change in Safety OIM Guidance for Offshore Rota and Rest Periods. You can download an abstract free from Step Change website, but otherwise have to 'purchase', though I think that's free as well.
