Hi all, I found this video today so powerful that I thought I’d share on here. If you are thinking of starting a wellbeing/mental health campaign this is a powerful message:

This thoughtful video offers a constructive perspective on being attentive to signals of distress on the part of someone who might be particularly vulnerable.  Half a loaf is usually better than no bread.

The downside is that it can also fuel perceptions that failing to tolerate stresses and disappointments is the product of an 'eggshell personality' and of 'self-indulgence', on the one hand, and of misdirecting attention to fundamental errors of occupational safety and health policy such as misleading guidance by an occupational safety and health specialist.  Where a climate and culture has for a long time fouled understanding of employee and worker wellbeing, and deprived them of consultative means for expressing frustration or generating hope, do those involved not need someething much more nourishing and energising?  Actions that may sustain valid concerns over time?

I agree a lot more can be done in terms of prevention, identifying stressors and how to deal with them etc. However a great starting point for members of the public and others to identify those who are at the sad stage of not really knowing what to do and having those thoughts identified in the video.

The Mates in Mind interest group,  established by the Health in Construction Leadership Group (HCLG) , has shown how imaginative and sensititive use of language and imagery goes a fair way to sidestep and incisively challenge routine habits of 'siloing' messages about occupational safety and health.
