It is not so unsual to see a company go into voluntary liquidation to evade being prosecuted, but the case below is quite bizzare. I cannot fathom how a Spanish (EU) company can evade prosecution for a fatality of their own personnel in the UK.

'...the HSE had tried to establish contact with Porvi but “they snubbed us”.' Now there's a surprise!!

Someone (ie the Ministry of Justice or the HSE) is going to have to go to Spain and get a Spain court to recognise the fine and then get the Spanish authorities to enforce it. This might be costly and might take a long time.

That reminds me of the Somebody, Anybody, Nobody ditty... I expect we will have Brexited before then anyway and then not in the same jurisdiction.

Of it means that the Spanish company will never be able to trade in the UK again (until they pay the fine)  but after Brexit they might not want to!

Nothing stopping them trading - especially if PQQ "due diligence" is run by the secretary or administrator to merely check they have ticked the boxes and attached paperwork as opposed to actually scrutininising answers provided.
