We have had an EMF survey carried out on our site which has confirmed that as a site we are under any required action levels. "Maximum fields measured were 5% of the Low Action Level"

One of our employee's has since had a pacemaker fitted and is trying to get specific levels as the only information he has been given (Post Op) is that he should steer clear of anything with a warning sign on it. We have asked specified machine manufacturers for the information but they are quite sketchy on the info that they give out.

My question is that if we were to purchase a monitor which type would suit for the levels that may cause harm as we have quite a lot of heavy duty print and extrusion machines that in places have signage but as stated above have all been assessed as being below the LAL. I am informed that we run on an average of 6kw across the extrusion department but I have to admit EMF levels are all new to me and I am not familiar with levels which may cause a hazard.

Hi all,

These EMF regulations have also got me concerned, this reminds me of the TM44 AirCon inspection requirement where again we are guilty until you prove yourself innocent!

I am already innundated with calls from survey people telling me i must get this done and, by the way, for a fee they can do it for us.

HSG281 states that it expects no further action for most companies and kindly provides a list of equipment that will not need action, unfortunatley the list has some large holes in it such as FLT's, fixed machinery etc.

So as a 'light' manufacturing company which way do i jump? do i pay for a survey or make my own judgement? It takes a brave man!

Has anyone else any wise words?

Regards

Gazbut
