Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows why the term 'compliance obligation' has not been put into ISO 45001 but it is in ISO 14001?.... Curiousity has me pondering if there is any logical reason as to why it has been missed out.

Possibly because nobody understands what it means! What does it mean-in one sentence?

Now there’s a possible answer!
Basically as OHSAS 18001 and now ISO 45001 stipulates the term ‘legal and other requirements’ it’s the combination of both of those. Definition below:
“legal requirements that an organization has to comply with and other requirements that an organization has to or chooses to comply with”
Further details here if anybody is interested in compliance obligations:

It would be good if they tried a bit harder to use these terms consistently so if you have an integrated H&S and E management system it makes it easier.

‘Compliance obligation’ does not make it clear what you are complying with; it could be the law it could be guidance or standards or it could be the latest fleeting thoughts of Chairman Trump! ‘legal and other requirements’ is a bit clearer.

ISO9001 does not have the same clause or phrase, but does use “customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements”
It seems from ISO14001 the term “Compliance obligation” also includes the companies own targets and objectives, as well as the legal side.

Strikes me BS45001 is Emperors New Clothes.... 18001 re-written with the words in a different order. Are people buying this standard. An h&s management sytem and associated sub parts remains the same, regardless of exact definitions of words or abbreviations - HS(G)65, BS18001 etc No need to reinvent the wheel.
