We have been awarded a contract and will be responsible for the tower cranes, usually the Principal Contractor has dealt with any permissions needed for the tower crane(s) oversailing neighbouring buildings (outside of working hours). Also our (Potential) crane company has come back and said their experience is the same, where the PC deals with permissions.

We have been asked to look into this and my experience of this permit is limited, does anyone have any information or advice they are able to share with me? Signposting to informative sites etc.

An over-sail licence is a contract between the neighbouring owner (and tenant in some cases) and the contractor that spells out the terms and condition of allowing you to over-sail.  It includes things like access, time, insurance, RAMS etc.

You will need to identify the neighbouring owners and tenants and employ a construction lawyer to get them drawn up. Some neighbouring owners will require payment and it has been known that some will play along and then refuse just to frustrate the build.
