Hi,
I recently carried out an EMF risk assessment having read the regulation and found the risks to be minimul.
However I frequently get phone calls informing me that this assessment needs to be done by an external assessor in order to meet the regulations requirements, therefore as a small - medium business I would welcome advise on how best to go about this. i.e. does my risk assessment suffice given the findings are minimul or do I need be looking to have this assessed by an external assessor.
The regulation I feel is very confusing so would welcome any words of advice.

Mike,
Give us a clue, what type of business? Office based, engineering or dark matter processing?

These are unscrupulous people using lies to try to exploit you. This happens a lot - people with something to sell claiming that what they have to sell is a legal requirement. My advice is to put the phone down, or, if you would like to baffle them, ask them to quote the specific bit of the regs that says the assessment must be done by an external assessor.

Yorkshire IOSH Branch recently ran a very informative session
on EMF which was perfect timing for me as I was looking at a specific issue at
my workplace. The chap that ran the session (sorry name escapes me at the
moment) from one of the big specialist companies was very clear that EMF is the
exception not the rule in most work places.
If you look at the Yorkshire micro site you may be able to
find more details.
