Good morning,

I am looking to carry out a workshop on the results of workplace injury and was wanting to know if anyone has carried out workshops previously? Or have they had an external party such as an actor/actress come in and address their workforce. If so, who did they use?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Even if a point in the right direction.

Cheers

Steven

When you say the results, do you mean the potentially devastating effects on the injured person and their family, or do you mean the wider effects on the business?

You don’t need to use actors – there are people out there who have suffered life changing injuries who will tell you how it has affected their lives   I have listened to Jason Anker and Ken Woodward speak at events and they both have a web presence. Have seen “big butch builders” arrive at an event saying “Work at heights is all a load of rubbish” and leave in tears after listening to Jason! I’m sure an internet search would give you other names. Additionally the HSE web site includes clips of people or their families talking about their accidents which I have used in the past.

The idea is to show the devastation towards a family or person that has been through an incident. Real life scenario is ideal. I have tried to look on google but was having no luck finding names.

I have now contacted them to see if they are available.

Thanks for the info Brian, much appreciated

Cheers

Like Brian, I have listened to Ken Woodward - he spoke to a regional IOSH dinner many years ago & I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. There is nothing more powerful than hearing from an individual who has not only suffered greatly but risen above it with courage & positivity.

I saw Louise Taggart speak at the SHE show NE recently, she had a very powerful message. There is also a couple of videos of her speaking on the SHPonline site https://www.shponline.co.uk/following-brothers-preventable-death-sister-releases-videos-promote-positive-change/ They are only ~5 mins each but well worth taking the time to watch

Malc,

Thanks for the information. A different perspective of how a workplace accident can affect people.

Cheers

You could also contact Lisa Ramos and David Garton (wife and husband), who provide a comprehensive story of their lives following a fork lift truck accident (never known a room so quiet!)
