We've recently had a set of steps fabricated that are used to travel over two production lines. Having looked at them I have concerns that the angle of the steps is too steep, the tread depth is too shallow and the with of the steps insufficient. If I'm being honest, they look like they've been designed to fit the available space at the expense of safety and usability. Can anyone tell me which standard references the design criteria for such equipment?

Approved Document K of the Building Regs applies to staircases in buildings and will provide guidance on angles and step sizes etc
