Morning peeps,

I have a query regarding competency for setting up of a press. If an operative has set up the tooling within the press for a number of years and has no problems with it can he be competent to do this without formal qualification? I am talking about doing it most of their working life. 30 odd years.

The tooling is always signed off by a setter who has undertaken formal training prior to use to ensure it is safe to use or any adjustments are made. They are not doing the full set up on their own it’s always signed off by someone who has had the setting training.

Would a suitable assessment of his skills, visual and maybe a written questionnaire backed up with a written procedure and a secondary sign offbe sufficient?
