I have just been advised by the CQC that all RIDDORS that occur on our site (NHS Acute hospital) should also be reported to them using their statutory notification about serious injury to a person who uses the service form.
I wonder if anyone else out there is aware of this?

Thanks for that I was aware of the document but I'm not entirely sure the CQC are as they are still insisting I report an incident, that I have already reported to the HSE, to them directly.

Ann, The relevant legislation is Regulation 18 of the The Care Quality Commission (Registration) Regulations 2009 DJ

A CQC notification is required for any serious injury to a person recieving a regulated activity whilst under the care of your hospital, this can be submitted via their website.

Did they (the CQC) actually say “RIDDORS” or did they just say incidents? There are two separate reporting requirements one for HSE-RIDDORS and one for CQC- Notifications under Regulation 18. There might in practice be overlap but they are two separate sets of requirements. According to the memorandum of understanding, CQC and HSE have agreed to share information so if something is reported under one system it can be cross checked under the other system but there are two separate systems.
