Hi all,

I would appreciate your opinions on the extended servicing of fire extinguishers.

We have recently had a new engineer on site who now tells me that the extinguishers need to be replaced as they are over 5 years old; apparently they do not recommend the 5 yearly extended service anymore???

The previous engineer performed the discharge/extended service a number of times before on the very same extinguishers. eg a 2005 extinguisher was discharged in 2010 and 2015.

Is this the industry standard now?

Regards

Gazbut

Yes I do believe it is - I think this has cropped up on this forum before as well.  It is to do with them being classed as pressure vessels.

check out BS 5306-3:2017 Fire extinguishing installations and equipment on premises. Commissioning and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers. Code of practice.

There are also 10 year lifetime warranted extinguishers being offered into the market
