The stupidity is not new it’s just the social media mean it is more widely distributed. Once enough people have realised how stupid it is, they will stop. In the old days before social media the world relied local radio to find people stupid to do these stunts- see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2691229.stm At least there was someone to sue at the end of that process. Of course the opposite is also now true: I was reading a newspaper article this mooring about the use of “plastic” and it seemed to be based on the idea that “plastic (whatever that actually is)” is something truly evil and must be eliminated at all costs Another dim idea doing the rounds of social media and one that will take longer to counter.

It is surely one of the ironies of the modern age that the more technically advanced we become as a society, the more stupid sections of it become.

Health and safety is common sense they say. Well, that is a contradiction in terms. If it was that common we would not be witness to examples like this....which is truly tragic by the way.
Ultimately though I am not complaining because if there were no "stupid" people in the world to explain the obvious to we would be out of a career. I love "stupid" people, in fact every morning I get out of bed and thank them for my wonderful job!
