Good morning

Can anyone assist me with information about cadmium safety. I would like to understand the following:

The effects of cadmium being present in a product but release is marginal

The effects of working with metals containing cadmium during the smelting process

Are there any WELs etc

How do we dispose safely

Thank you in advance

Hi hopeful,

A good place to start would be http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/books/eh40.htm

HSE used to produce really good in depth documents about specific topics including (I almost certain) cadmium. The stopped doing these about 10 years ago and I don’t have any copies left. I thing they now expect you to do your own digging for information. As well as EH40 you should look at http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg391.pdf and from Public Health England https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/569198/Cadmium_general_information.pdf. Both a rather short but are a good introduction to the issues. Hopefully someone has curated some of the old HSE guidance and can get a copy. I though I had one but I think it go left somewhere after a job move.
