Martin - can't recommend a book but my first port of call would be the Health and Safety Authority website.

Most RoI health and safety legislation is similar to that in GB (and parallels in NI) as a result of transposing EC Directives but whilst trying to avoid "gold plating" the requirements.

One slight variant on this approach is as regards substances hazardous to health along with biological and carcinogenic agents. In the UK all rolled together in COSHH, in RoI separate regs to cover the parent directives.

I purchased this book a while back and find it a very good reference. The Raymond Byrne Book – Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Law in Ireland. This 1,078 page book provides a full account of the law on the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005. It will be of particular interest to occupational safety and health practitioners and members of the legal profession who wish to have a detailed analysis of the general principles and the detailed rules in this increasingly complex area of law. An updated supplement from Raymond Byrne will also be sent out detailing new developments in health and safety since the book was published in 2008. Raymond Byrne Raymond Byrne is the Director of Research at the Law Reform Commission. At Dublin City University, he has been involved in its masters programme in safety and health at work since its inception. He has also lectured widely to both the public sector and private sector audiences on the legal aspects of occupational safety and health. He is also co-author of The Irish Legal System and of the Annual Review of Irish Law. A link to a site that sells the book is http://archive.newsweave...fast/index000323959.html Hope this helps a little.
