Hi All

We are looking to store some IBCs of used ethanol and xylene. We've been pricing up some of the purpose built IBC stores and they are coming out pretty pricey. We don't really have any safe internal areas that could be adapted so it needs to be outside.

Just wondering if any of you have any ideas for cost effective storage solutions that you have come across or use at your own places of work.

Thanks

I assume that IBC's are empty, you have fence around the site with gates which you can close and you are based in UK.

If it is a case just store them outside, one on the top of each other, until hazardous waste company will take them. If you have plenty of IBC's just organise more frequent collections.

Just make sure that lid and tap are closed before storing them outsisde.

Apologies if it wasn't clear but the IBCs are full or part full with waste ethanol and xylene. The plan is to store them until they are full and we have enough for a load to be transported away.

In a previous life all of our waste solvents were disposed of in 200 L metal drums, stored outside in a purpose built, covered, fenced, bunded area.  Collected monthly 40 at a time by large artic.  Most of the solvents arrived in 200 l drums so we usually had enough around for disposals.

Are your solvents delivered in IBCs which you want to re-use?

Useful guidance can be found here if you haven't got it already http://www.solvents.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/SIA-Guidance-Note-51.pdf
