Hi

A member of public was injured at a venue and was taken to hospital by car. They received a bump on the head when a glass door panel fell onto to them and as it was safety glass the panel shattered into small pieces. At hospital they were given an x-ray and told there was no other injury and they were not given any treatment. They were back at work the next day. Although they were taken to hospital they received no treatment. Also this does not fall under a dangerous occurrence on the HSE guidance. Should this still be reported under RIDDOR?

The information below explains whether RIDDOR or not in relation to the circumstances you have explained. Therefore you have answered your own question.

HSE state:

'Accidents to members of the public or others who are not at work must be reported if they result in an injury and the person is taken directly from the scene of the accident to hospital for treatment to that injury. Examinations and diagnostic tests do not constitute ‘treatment’ in such circumstances.

There is no need to report incidents where people are taken to hospital purely as a precaution when no injury is apparent.'

The injuries are not reportable under RIDDOR 2013 as no treatment was given, & although the incident could be deemed as "dangerous" it is not listed as such under Schedule 2 of the Regs.
