Hi All,

Is a viral infection contracted during working hours RIDDOR reportable?

One of our truck drivers contracted viral meningitis whilst driving around Europe and had to be hospitalised, As this is a viral infection and was not as a result of work related task I assume this is NOT RIDDOR Reportable. However, this was contracted duyring working hours so I am undecided. This is a truck driver that drives around Europe so this could have been contracted anywhere, including public places.

Thanks for any advice

Regards

Dylan

Viral meningitis would only need to be reported if the infection came about directly due to work either with the infectious agent or someone who was infected with the disease in a medical situation such as a hospital.
