I'm trying to work out if it worth my employer putting two members of management through the SMSTS course to supervise and manage non-licensable asbestos removal works.

Can anyone provide any wisdom on this please?

If they are to supervise asbestos removal then it would be Cat B asbestos training thats needed as per Control of asbestos reglations  If they attend a decent course then this should cover anything coverd in SMSTS

SMSTS is a good course, but is not specific to supervising asbestos whether non-licensed or notifiable non-licensed.

The level of training and supervision needs to be commensurate with what they are being asked to do. There are specific courses which deal with the different types and levels of asbestos work. Have a look at the asbestos essentials section on the HSE website which has some really useful informmation on what is needed for some specific activites which do not require a licensed contractor.
