good afternoon, I am looking for a little help and guidance.
I have just found out that there is no consistent guidance in place for occupational health in the current workplace. The reason this has been thrust upon my desk is that one of oour Housing officers advised me that they had a compromised Immune system and their GP recommended that they have a Hep B vaccination.
All fairly straight forward, but looking into this revealed that there is no system in place to recognise this particular type of hazard or to deal with the request.
As a one off this is really something for our Occupational Health department, however this is contracted out to OH assist so I expect to have it dumped back on my desk in january.
My bigger concern is the lack of recognition of infection as a workplace hazard, so aside from raising awareness some form of policy needs to be put in place
Has anyone got a policy that covers contact with BBV etc that I can use as a starting point, I have already looked at HSE guidance INDG 342 and the paper on Bio safety. any other advice and guidance will be really appreciated as this is outside my TORs and comfort zone,
Nic
